Hey, I am a new college grad who just has just gotten his RN. I've visited NC several times and overall I love what I’ve seen but I have several questions. Firstly, I know that NC is a red state but I am a rabid democrat, just curious how the democrats are doing around the Winston-Salem area. Secondly, I am only 23 so I would like to know if NC is a state that has a fair amount of places for people my age or if it is more of a state to move to when you are at an age that you feel more like settling down. Other than those two questions just like to generally know what there is to do and if anyone could recommend an area to set up camp at.
Well, for one thing, you won't be alone as a democrat in NC. NC votes "red" in national electons, but has a Democratic Governer, and Democratic controlled state senate.
Thanks for the info, I guess I should have looked that up myself but, I am very busy and my heads in the clouds and all. Being a new grad it's great deciding where I want to live. ^_^
Bad news lots of Dems. I'm conservative not like the Republicans of today but a true conservative. It really doesn't bother me though I have many liberal friends. I won't make my relocation plans based on a red or blue state.
I get along with both sides and people in the middle.
I'm moving from Az.
With a nursing degree, I'm sure you could find a job about anywhere in NC, especially those areas with large medical centers.
The Triad (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point) is a fairly conservative area, but it is large enough that you can find plenty of other pinko lefties such as yourself to become involved with and discuss your misguided beliefs.
Seriously -- W-S has a significant arts community, so that in itself often attracts liberal viewpoints - you won't have a problem fitting in.
Thanks for the replies thus far, really appreciae the input. Just wondering about that one other question, are the many things to do for a 23 year old single guy around the Winston-Salem area?
Well. before you settle on Winston-Salem... it's the most "conservative" city in NC. Durham is the most "liberal".
