The FDA is meeting to finalize a proposal for just one annual covid shot..the bivalent one.

To simplify the makeup and timing of the shots, the agency also is proposing to retire the original vaccines and to offer only bivalent doses for primary and booster shots, according to briefing documents published on Monday.
The proposal took some scientists by surprise, including a few of the F.D.A.’s own advisers. They are scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss the country’s vaccine strategy, including which doses should be offered and on what schedule.
Not sure how everyone knows what version they had. For us, it spread like wildfire at an outdoor family event last summer. People had flown in from all over the country so there's no telling who started it and no one cares. Everyone had very mild cases. I was just extraordinarily fatigued for a couple of days.
All I can say is whatever variant we had, several of us lost significant amounts of hair, which is finally starting to grow back.
I was relieved to read your post, and agree with the way you described the illness, including the part about hair loss. My family all came down with what I suppose was the "Omicron" variant in early August. We all felt terrible for the first day or two, gradually improving until all that remained was fatigue. It seems I was the only one to experience copious amounts of hair loss! My two adult children (30 and 32 yrs. old) were not affected. I haven't heard anyone I know personally attest to hair loss after Covid, so thanks for your report!

I haven’t heard of people getting hair loss but one of the current variants here seems to cause vomiting. A friend, who has cardiomyopathy, ended up in hospital and had to have the antiviral by drip. She is in Perth, but I also hear of people locally with vomiting.
Went to the city last night to see Moulin Rouge. Full house, city is alive and train home at about 10pm nearly full. Only a few older people, often of Asian heritage, still wearing masks. But nobody cares, I just do feel sorry for those who still have a high anxiety level and especially one couple we know who basically still self isolate.
When it's raining, I'm not wearing a raincoat because I am in fear of the rain. I just don't want to get rained on.
That's a very good analogy.
To expand a bit: Some people, like me, use an umbrella instead of a raincoat. Others use both. Some stay home when it rains and wait for the sun to come out. And still others don't mind getting rained on, whether for short or long periods (fishermen, athletes, my adult sons, etc). Some people legitimately fear a cold rain because they have a compromised immune system and don't want to catch pneumonia and die.

Except that you're still "getting rained on" unless it's a properly fitted N95/N99. You're protected from large droplets and bacteria - not tiny viral particles that go around and through your paper and cloth masks...
Kind of like wearing one of those little beanie umbrella hats in the rain and expecting to remain dry.

Maybe the ones that get through the n95 mask - a smaller load - will act like a vaccine/booster?
A win!

If it's properly fitted, not much gets through it, but that's not what most "maskers" are wearing. Oh, and the KN95s are knock-offs; there's a list of approved manufacturers...

Three of our family members got that in July; two were sure that it was from standing and talking--outside--too close to people who must have been carrying the virus unknowingly. All three, all different ages and with no preexisting conditions--said it was bad for at least a week. I think then it was the Omicron subvariants, BQ.1.1 and BQ.1. (They did not have the hair loss; how awful for you.)

How can you be so specific of what variants they had?
I knew the hair would come back, my friend is a hairdresser who had covid with hair loss 9 months earlier. Not only did she also have hair loss, so have many of her clients.

My sister lost about 80% of her hair. It is growing back now and the short hair looks good on her.
