I used to own a glass studio and I love working with glass and tile. Really the mechanics of it are not hard at all. It's the design that requires skill. And just remember do something you really LOVE because you are going to be looking at it for a long time! Also make sure it will stand up to repeated cleaning! And no sharp edges!

I would also do something like a table top first for practice!
