I make her **** the a/c while we are there as it truly is annoying, I couldnt imagine a furnace next to the bedroom

I would find that intolerable as well. Some people are oblivious to noise (or other sensory problems) I have a friend like that. We meet to hike and she loves this one state park, but they allow motorized vehicles in sections of it. ATVs in summer, snowmobiles in winter, and even if they stay on their side (which they usually don't) I can hear and smell them. I finally refused to go there any more, because I just can't stand it. She doesn't even notice it, smell or sound.

Back on topic, I like my bed to be: headboard against a wall, but free space on the sides and foot, and able to see out the window from the bed.

However in the case of a 'guest room' with two twin beds, I don't think I would be worrying too much about what a guest might prefer in bed placement, presumably they'll only be in the room for a night or two. Or in my case, it would be never. So maybe I'm not qualified to answer after all.

We were going to replace a fence on our property TNH in 2012. We submitted the permit and survey and paid them off and were turned down because our A/C unit apparently had been installed by the prior owner and was encroaching on the side setbacks. (note this was not a problem when we bought in the 90's). We were told we had to relocated it or get letters from all connected neighbors and then go for a variance (read more money). It was a PITA but we knew the neighbors would not object since it had originally been installed next to the neighbors garage and any relocation would be closer to the living space of every neighbor. The point is that at times you simply have no choice in where you are placing the units.

I would love to have the bed in the middle of our bedroom, but the room's too small for that. We have it against the west wall, partially against the huge window there, because that's literally the only place it will fit. The heat pump is outside that window, as is the pool pump, so we don't open it except on rare occasions. If we need outside ventilation, we open the sliding glass door on the north side and/or run the ceiling fan.

In the 14 years we've lived here, we've gotten quite comfortable with the arrangement. We can't hear the outside equipment due to our CPAP machines making a low white noise to drown out that other equipment.

A house this size just doesn't lend itself to multiple choice in bedroom placements...

From a planning standpoint, first preference is foot of bed facing the door. This enables people using both sides of the bed to get to their side without having to walk around.

If that's not possible, next preference is perpendicular to the door, with foot of bed closest to the door, so both users walk into to the room and then turn to get to their side of the bed. Last preference is walking in beside the bed, which means one person has to walk all the way around the bed to get to their side.

Of course placement of the closet(s) is also something to consider. You want access to the closets to be easy for both people also, don't want both of you squeezed into the corner trying to get into the closet.

I remember as a teen when I'd clean my bedroom and like to re arrange it, my mother always said the bed is not supposed to be seen from the entrance to the bedroom.

meaning if your in the hallway looking towards my bedroom the bed should not be seen, so it would be on either of the other 3 walls, to which it did. Luckily I did have a lot of different ways to place my bed, of course it was twin size bed, so that also makes it easier to lace as well

so, that always stuck in my head.
of course in my apartment there is only one place for the bed, and it can be seen from the little hallway.
oh well..................................

moms whole theory has been totally de-bunked here. LOLOLOLOLOL

Funny. As I started to read your post I immediately looked toward my bedroom. My bed can be seen from any angle, and from any position, chair or couch, when looking into the bedroom door from the living room. I'm the only one who lives here so it doesn't bother me and my infrequent company has never commented one way or another. Usually the first thing the visitor does is go into the bedroom to say hello to The Cat anyway. She insists upon it.

Mine doesn't, there's no door frame at all, it came that way, and I don't want one, and I wouldn't shut it if I had one anyway. I like everything kept open for air flow.

There is a screen door attached, because my bedroom and the room adjoining it (by another open doorway) is the Safe Room for The Cat, whenever I need her to be kept safe. But of course that wouldn't block anyone's view of my bedroom.

Don't worry, I always make the bed. If I don't The Cat shouts at me, because the bed is her domain.

when I first moved into this apartment many years ago, I had removed the door because when it opened it banged against the mirror closets behind it and thought I'm here alone, what do I need a door for? and if anyone sleeps over, they will be sleeping with me..

but I'm married now, and spouse would like to be in the bedroom with the a/c on, me, not so much so I had a door installed, but thought of a solid 6 panel door to match the rest of the apartment, but then thought if spouse is in there it would be like being cut off from the rest of the apartment, so I solved that by having a french door with the glass in it.

In regards to privacy, we don't need it as were the only ones that live here and no one comes to sleep over and if they do, I just put a tension rod with a sheet across the door, easy, but that happen once every 2 years if that.

If I could though, Id like to place my bed to the left of the door, the bed would fit with only one night table, and I have two. I wont like one because the wall wont be balanced, but on the other hand I wont hear the tenants in the next apartment behind my headboard which can really put me to the test, but they are nice people **sigh**

The walls need to be painted desperately, but the window wall had leaks and needs a skim coat, and, ugh, the beat goes on......
