It’s finally happening.

Reported as breaking news at noon on local CBS affiliate.

WSJ story: https://www.wsj.com/articles/exxon-t...=hp_lista_pos1

“Exxon’s relocation to Spring bolsters Houston’s standing as the nation's “energy capital” as the city recovers from the worst oil bust in a generation. The corporate move will also have wide-reaching implications for the city’s economic development plans and real estate market as Exxon employees, contractors and suppliers relocate to Houston.”

Wow, huge news. Not so much from an economic POV (less than a thousand peeps), but the cache of a HQ.

Thanks for sharing!

Always nice landing another F500 HQ, but to nab a blue-chip corp from Dallas makes it even better.

It is about time. I knew that this would eventually happen. Not sure why it took them so long!

Hopefully Chevron will be next. I'm actually surprised that Exxon beat them to this move, I'd have expected Chevron to long since have decamped from California but they have held steady so far.

Yeah honestly it's Chevron that's mystified me more than ExxonMobil.

Another win for the new board members. As a former employer, I can tell you this should have happened years ago.

I’m surprised you are missing the moment PS. This is much bigger than HPE moving its HQ from San Jose.

Dallas understands the impact…

“ Bruce Bullock, director of Southern Methodist University’s Maguire Energy Institute, said while the move was “not unexpected,” it will hurt Dallas’ image as an energy center.

“We still have HollyFrontier here. We still have Energy Transfer,” Bullock said. “But this is the largest [exploration and production] company in the world. It certainly takes away from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and its image as an area for the energy industry.”

The decision also is a blow to Irving, which bills itself as the “headquarters of headquarters.” In recent years, the city has seen high-profile exits, such as the Dallas Cowboys headquarters move to Frisco and the Byron Nelson golf tournament leaving its longtime home at the Four Seasons Resort and Club.”
