The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season could be one of the most active on record, according to a just-released outlook.

Here what's Colorado State University is saying:

the team is forecasting 23 storms, 11 of which will become hurricanes and 5 of which will reach Category 3 status or stronger, in their first outlook for 2024 released Thursday.

This is the highest number of storms and hurricanes the CSU team has forecast in any of their April hurricane season outlooks since 1996.

Hopefully one of these tropical storms can make their way into Central Texas. Austin could really use one.

It seems like we hear roughly the same prediction every year. Do we ever see a recap to see how the predictions panned out?

All it takes is one right guess say you were right

We had 100- to 500-year events in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

That means we should be safe for a few hundred years, right?

If only statistics worked like that...

We trimmed all of the trees near the house, carry flood insurance, and I test-run our tri-fuel portable generator every couple of months. That's about all that can be done for now...

Default It's unreliable

This prediction is basically a crap shoot. They don't know what the weather will be any more than we do. The predictions are so vague that its anyones guess. For instance if I told you thatI I predict it will be hot this year in July.

The predictions probably change few times before the season begins.
