Doug, I'd like to learn what you know about the current owner. I didn't realize she had such issues until I started doing research on the house tonight. I live in the neighborhood and am having problems with her.

That's awful about wha they're doing to the house.

Someone should start a "Save the McCormick Mansion" fund and buy the thing. Like the Huntsville Historic Society or whatever.

There is another thread under the name in my title for this post.
The Kildare name was supplied by the original builder, one Major M.J. O'Shaughnessy, who named for his mother's birth county in Ireland. This is the guy who funded the building of Dallas Mill. The McCormick name came from the fact that the house was once occupied by Mary Virginia McCormick, schizophrenic spinster daughter of Cyrus McCormick, inventer of the reaper. After his death her trust fund bought it for her. She added the sunporch on the south side and lived there seasonally from 1900 to 1932 but died in Passadena where another of her mansions was located. The neighbors say they have never seen her remove anything from the house. They feel sure she is not gutting it out. However, she is still crazy and always lurking with the hose pipe. Rumor has it she used to be a man!! OMG!! Her story gets stranger and stranger. I really believe the spirits in the house are driving her crazy or feeding off her negativity. I almost feel sorry for her. LOL

Have the neighbors checked the basement? It's probably 2 story high, and she is burying everything in there, including "nosy" neighbors.

Another incident to report as this seems to be the place Google is bringing people searching for info on the psycho who lives there. All I did was pull
off of Oakwood Ave into the parking lot of the abandoned auto service building. I never got out of my vehicle, it was about 2pm on a nice sunny day. I was able to make one picture of the side of the house and I hear
"you better get your ass off my property." I'm in disbelief as I'm wondering why are you worried about an abandoned auto service building.
I said; "what's your problem lady?" She said; "don't you see this no trespassing sign?." Well of course I saw the sign and that's why I didn't go beyond the sign. She started throwing rocks at my truck as I was trying to get out of the tiny parking lot. I blew my horn as I sped away
and she shot me a bird! This entire event only lasted for about 30 to 40 seconds. I also got a nice shot from the street behind the house. I try and respect people's privacy but to throw rocks at someone who has a camera in their hand? Is that so wrong to want to photograph something as magnificent as The Kildare/McCormack Mansion??

Dude-
the crazy was right - that paved lot (the shack) belongs to her (the same owner of the house), only the treed lot between the shack on the corner lot and the next lot to the west is fair game (foreclosure-Fannie)

Well hsvdude, I agree with the woman.
Just leave her alone, because you have no business in harrasing her with taking pictures.

If I see you taking pictures of my house, you would take pictures of a gun pointed at you.
And yes, I would come to your truck and ask you face to face why you need those pictures.

Just mind your own businees and learn to leave people alone.

I disagree with you, FAL.

"Leaving her alone" is one thing.

Innocently taking pictures of a unique and historic house is another, and I would hardly call it "harassment".

If someone were taking pictures of my house, which has nothing special or historic about it, I would naturally be suspicious, as would you if it were yours. But If I lived in a historic LANDMARK to the community that is also incredibly beautiful and unique in style, I, as a SANE person, would not mind because I would realize that people are only admiring my house. I would take it as a compliment instead of garnering hatred by throwing rocks at everybody who passes by. And for that matter -her house isn't the only house people take pictures of. There are hundreds of historic houses in this community people take pictures of because they are admired - nobody minds - except this one bitter woman.

Harassing innocent passers-by who want to take a picture of your house in admiration of it is crazy and out of touch... and defending people who do that is equally out of touch.

Come on - you think she doesn't KNOW people are just admiring her house? The only explanation would be that she is just incredibly bitter or highly paranoid or both.

If the lady owns the property across the street, stay off it. But there's no law, as far as I'm aware, that forbids people, in public domain, from taking pictures of historic houses - even if they are lived in.

For the sake of being legally right, stay off whatever property is hers - but the next time this woman starts harassing anyone, throwing rocks, spraying the hose, whatever, even just yelling or cursing at you or behaving in a threatening manner - make sure you are within your rights and then CALL THE POLICE AND WAIT FOR CONTACT THEM. This woman needs to be sent a message that she can't be terrorizing our community for merely admiring the house she lives in.
