Anyone else have negative experience with the Recycling Alliance of North Alabama (RANA). They emailed to say cart outside by 7am, yet they had trucks in neighborhood by 6:45am, which caused my cart to be missed.

I’ve reported it, but this once a month doesn’t allow room for a miss.

No problems at all. Sounds like they are on the ball, help the guys out.
Hint: put it out the night before

The first pickup for me, they were a day late. Was supposed to be Thursday, but they didn't come until around noon on Friday. That's just growing pains. Yesterday, they came around 1:00.

The drivers are much more gentle with the carts than the garbage trucks are. They grab them, lift them slowly to the truck, dump the stuff, then set them down gently. The garbage people do the same sequence at light speed, then essentially throw the cart down on the street, curb, wherever it lands. Hopefully the RANA driver is just gentle in general, and won't get worse once he gets experience.

Unfortunately, Thursday is the day for both garbage and recycle pickup for my neighborhood. There are stories people tell on our neighborhood Nextdoor app where the garbage truck will turn the recycle cart over and strow the debris all over the street. The two carts are supposed to be no closer than 5 feet apart to prevent interference. That issue will likely get better with time also.

Just had my second pickup Thursday and no complaints so far. Love the larger bins and the e-mail reminders, although I've set up my own calendar reminder anyway.

Still curious about a few overflowing bins I see around the neighborhood. I say that because there's a lot less that's allowed to be recycled than before...so even with a 4 week cycle, unless you're frequently putting in large and/or unbroken down cardboard pieces, I don't know how you can manage to fill that thing.

I thought that too, but mine was full - not overflowing, but full and quite heavy. Strange because the new cart is more than 4 times the volume of the older crates - I think.

No room to complain ... it's a free service.

I have yet to get my can.

As far as the 5 foot separation between garbage and recycling cans; that's tough to do when you live in an area with small lots or live in a cul-de-sac and you only have about 5 feet of frontage plus driveway!

I wish there were oil/hazardous waste drop off location throughout their service area which they could collect from on a bi-annual basis. Dropping off M-F 7AM-5PM is 'garbage'. Some of us work! Unfortunately missed the last "community" collection event three weeks back. That "offsite" was at the Hsv landfill. They went out of their way to service the community that day.

I'd say 50% of our trash output is recyclable. We easily fill the new can in 2 weeks. They are going to have to switch to bi-monthly pickup eventually - once a month is not going to cut it.

Right now I have to get out a ladder and climb into the can and stomp the recycling garbage down to make room for more.

No issues at all. I set a calendar reminder for my day, third friday, set it out the night before. Just got home and it's been emptied.
