headhunter, recruiter, same thing... I'm talking about the types that work on commission, not the corporate internal ones
I started talking to a headhunter a year ago that I thought was an exception. We communicated by phone or e-mail every couple of months. She told me the job market is really bad (agreed) but I appreciated the contact, because I felt that she valued my potential contribution to an employer and didn't see me as just another resume like the rest of the resume-collecting scum.
Then, last month, she sent me an e-mail saying the job market has picked up, and she asked me if I knew anyone who is looking for work. I replied and said ME, you dummy! (in a polite way). She said employers are still being picky... so the implication is that I suck but maybe I have a friend who doesn't suck and can earn her a commission? Maybe so, but guess what sweetie, you're not my friend, and I am not doing your work for FREE.
I was disappointed to have wasted that time talking to someone who turned out to be just another scumbucket.
The poster child for recruiters is a loser who frequents this board and likes to watch TV and sports.
I had a similar situation, a head hunter at a firm asked me to stop by for a chat and interview even. They always promise the sun and moon and typically deliver nothing.
If recruiters are scum, how come so few of them run for public office?
same reason debt collectors and used car salesmen rarely run for public office... they have different flavors of scum in their buckets
