It probably made me lose focus on my current job which I haven’t been at long.
How is that the fault or responsibility of a company that posts a job opening? They are not responsible for your actions, or how you perform at your current job. How you conduct yourself is entirely your responsibility, and you should step up and admit that.
When I post an opening, I do not require anybody to apply for it. I do not promise a job to anybody, nor do I ever promise an exact timeline. How a person who does not work for me reacts to my job opening is completely beyond my control.
Yes, April-Sept for an entry level position is a long time. You should not be living your life around something that is no more than a possibility.
OP, like I said, you look for other jobs. I was literally ghosted for a weekend job. I didn't allow it to deter me. If you allow yourself to build up like that to the point you're holding a grudge, you'll never make it.
They’ve certainly acted entitled throughout this whole process. I guess when you’re a top notch university in a big city these are things you’re entitled to do.

In what way are they being entitled?
Between this and your other thread the only problem seems to be the long process. Other than that, they seem to be transparent and responsive.

To me this is a part of the reason companies do remind you there are other candidates. You shouldn't be basing any big decisions or doing anything out of the usual while the decision making process is going on. Apply and live your life as normal, including looking for other jobs if that's something you want to do. Don't put other things on hold just because you've had interviews, they may or may not pan out.

The attitude that "We don't have to treat you like a human being, we have 50 other candidates we can abuse with impunity."
How are they abusing OP?
The process is taking a bit of time, but every time he has contacted them they have responded promptly and with information on the process. How would you change this?
