I have been eating out a lot since their is such a tremendous variety and tasty quality nearby.

La Bonita: The cafeterias/taquerias at any La Bonita Supermarket are beyond delicious. Very inexpensive lunch prices....crazy good https://goo.gl/maps/SjrgdQj44bJ2

Thai Cuisine corner of Nellis and Bonanza is busy for lunch but tables available, fantastic authentic lunch specials for $6.99-$7.99 Very delicious, great service. https://goo.gl/maps/jiXuVct3at72

Golden Corral. Shameful indulgence. There's not a good one in Miami where I am from. The lunch special (I like ice water) comes to about $12 including tip. The food is a guilty pleasure. Sadly, this is too easy to get to. https://goo.gl/maps/xmvJyRqgucx

Oh Curry! I had for the first time Japanese Curry at this location. Very interesting flavor. Obviously family owned and the proprietor was exceedingly gracious. I think the lunch was about $12.00 https://goo.gl/maps/Padds6ADBTr

IHOP. Another shameful indulgence but very nearby and I was hungry. Service was excellent. IHOP was perfect. LOL it's nextdoor to a Denny's

In Miami, where I lived traffic was so bad at ll hours, you simply would not want to travel to restaurants. All the restaurants I listed are within 5-10 minutes of my home in 89142. There are so many more as well. This morning, I'm meeting some relatives at the Boulder Station Casino Buffet which is also only 5-10 minutes away. I've seen the crowds here before, so I expect it will be good.

I am here now only about 2 weeks and will keep my home in Miami. I am really enjoying this area and have seen and encountered nothing but nice people. As others have said, I'm sure this is related to my coming from a more dangerous feeling yet much more expensive area of Miami. Frankly, I trust my senses around people and mutual respect goes a long way whether in professional environments or riding the subway through Brooklyn. Anyway, it's safe here and the area you are building is very beautiful.

All the best -
How amazing! Thank you SO much for sharing all this incredible info...means a lot! Will check out the area more - your direct links have been very helpful. We plan to head back the area end of February to check out the neighborhood further and revisit the home model that we fell for. Thanks again!!!

I have been checking crimemapping.com and other reports and honestly, I have to say it doesn't seem to be extremely higher in that immediate area of the community than it is in say a community in Henderson. That said...yes, I did notice to go outside that zip to the west and crime is HIGHER, absolutely. I happy with diversity, and older neighborhoods (NYC was a great living experience!), but good to hear from someone that knows the area specifically first hand.

Curious as to what supermarket you shop at, etc...do you stay in the Sunrise Manor area or do you travel outside of it for errands, grabbing dinner at a restaurant, etc. We noticed from the location we are looking it's only a 20 minute drive south the Galleria shopping area with a target, restaurants, etc in henderson...

All thoughts and feedback appreciated!
One of the cool things about living here is nothing is all that far away. You can still shop where you please and not burn up too much fuel and time. I am all about getting decent food for less money. I usually do major shopping once a month with a few small trips in between. Mostly for perishables like veggies and cream for my coffee. You will get circulars every week usually on Tuesday and there are some good sales here. Always avoid the first few days of the month when it's very busy.

I don't go Walmart. And this is just judgement on my part. I do not like them and I don't like standing in line when there are 15 cash registers closed. That's just me so I can't really tell you anything about Walmart.

My first stop is always the 99centsOnlyStore. You never know what you will find there. My big score last week was 10lbs of PollyO mozz for $10! YAAAY me. I always buy all my paper products and cleaning supplies here. I use the Awesome brand and they work well. I always take the time to walk through this store and really look. I have found Godiva chocolates there too.

Next stop will always be one of the Hispanic stores like Marketon or Cardenas. They usually have some great meat sales and the best produce.

Last stop is always Winco. JMHO but I think they have the best and most reasonable deli in Las Vegas. You can usually get roast beef for $3.98 per lb when it's close to $10 everywhere else. The prices are pretty good at Winco and the workers there are great. My last big score there was some pretty good coffee for $1.99 a bag.

I usually avoid the shiny stores like Whole Paycheck and Trader Joe's. I like them but they are not budget friendly for me. I always look for the best prices and the deals are here. They have to be. Just remember the average worker here makes less than $15 per hour and they survive. I look for the places they shop!

Reviving this thread in the event anyone else has helpful input on Sunrise Manor neighborhood.

My husband and I have done a LOT of thinking and rethinking and are going to stick with building a Harmony home in Sunrise Manor (it is as far east as you can go between E Sahara Ave and Vegas Valley Drive (east of South Hollywood). We love the home layout, the price is reasonable and some folks have been super helpful about places to go in the area, etc.

I guess I am still curious about how many folks live in that area but maybe do shopping/visit restaurants south of the neighborhood (ie Henderson or I saw a cool bar called Aces & Ales maybe 10 minutes slightly south of where we'd be living).

I DO check crimemapping.com quite a bit (more than my hubby would like me to) and do see a bit of crime every other month in that immediate neighborhood. But again, when I compare to other areas, it is seeming less and less worrisome.

I do however still see some concern when going west of our new home's community (where Smith's is, Starbucks, etc). Still seeing lots of crime over there so just want to hear from anyone in that area/neighborhood.

thanks so much!

Well, you'll be right next to the ghetto. I would have security screens/doors installed, wall around property, gun with ccw, and hopefully HOA has private security rolling around 24/7.

Do you live in that area? Really hoping for input by those that live in that immediate vicinity that I specifically mentioned. I appreciate your trying to warn me but it wasn't terribly constructive. Thanks though!

I've lived here for 45 days now and I love it. There's about 5 times the abundance of restaurants, stores, and other resources here or within about 10 minutes than in the newer, more expensive antiseptic areas. This is a very multi-ethnic area. My neighborhood is completely full of great people, exactly the kind of people you want as neighbors, nice well-kept homes, newer cars, nice families with good school children.

Sunrise Manor is a fairly large area. The areas to the North close to Nellis AFB look bad. The areas by Sahara do not. In fact they look great. Las Vegas has crime like everywhere else. You're not going to encounter crime in my opinion. My realtor tried to push me hard towards more expensive areas, but the antiseptic look of these areas did not appeal to me.

On Tuesday night I went to an open house meeting held by the LV Police Department. The police discussed gang activity. They focused on gang activity and seemed to be as concerned about gangs in the Northwest areas, and all other areas of LV as they were with Sunrise Manor. It seems crime is distributed around Las Vegas. I personally feel very safe here. I closed on November 15, 2018 and the redfin, zillow, and realtor.com estimates show my home is now worth 26% more than my purchase price. I imagine you are getting your money's worth for your home build. Sunrise Mountain is a beautiful backdrop.

Let us know how its going in a year when the loud parties, roving gangs, homeless everywhere, drive by shootings, graffiti and vandalism start getting old.

Just for fun, take some snapshots at the local grocery store on the first of the month and post them here.

Thank you so much for your helpful insight! This is the type of information I was looking for. It is those in the area I am most interested in hearing from so your response is spot on.

The area we are building is nowhere near Nellis AFB so thanks for acknowledging that you understood where specifically I mentioned. Lovely to hear from someone experiencing the area as their own and knowing the inside scoop per the LV Police Dept meeting. Really helpful to hear!

thanks again!

Hi Bruce - thanks for your input. We are not building a $500k home, much lower than that. Based on feedback from those living in the area we are looking to specifically build, I'm feeling it is worth our small investment.

Thanks though for offering your thoughts.
