I hope nobody takes this as I am stereo typing, I have seen faith mentioned often in the areas I am asking about. I love the look of the land in eastern KY and North Carolina but NC has moved out of my price range. I am from California. I don't mind poverty, I am from the same but I worry if I would be accepted as a non-Christian, somewhat New Age spiritual type? I doubt I would ever mention it or advertise deliberately. I may have a website business along those lines though, so people could find out that way. I am sure I'd be happier in a place I was accepted. I am accepting of others so no problem there. The idea is to retire with some acres, mini farm type thing with my husband. I am 55. I love trees and mountains and rain.

Hi Urban Fatigue! Welcome to the Lexington Kentucky Section here at City Data.
You might want to ask the Moderator to move this to the Kentucky thread though.

Lexington is in Central Kentucky, the mountains aren't real far from here, but they are in Eastern Kentucky.
I think the Mountains in Eastern Kentucky are really beautiful also. The people from there are usually super friendly.

In Lexington no one would bat an eye at whatever your religious beliefs are or aren't, but I am not sure about Eastern Kentucky since I don't live there. I would think you would okay as long as you didn't try to preach/convert them. A lot of people in Kentucky seem to be the 'live and let live' type though.

And Lexington and Cincinnati aren't all that far if you are looking to shop at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Macy's etc.
