I just received the following quote for AC unit (does not include electrician fees)
1. Rheem/ Ruud central ac 1.5 ton 13 seer $17K
2. Daiken Fit high efficiency 16 seer $20k.
I just started shopping and this was the first quote I receive from a contractor which includes pre-season discounts.
Has anyone installed central a/c recently. Does this seem reasonable? Yikes goodness gracious.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Im guessing this is for an entire new install correct? Including all ductwork etc.? Depending on factors 17k probably isn't that far off keep getting quotes you may be able to do a little better.
No way did you get that without some sort of special inside deal. And why would a replacement system need ductwork? Also was that just for the condenser?
The quote was for the outside unit, the unit in my attic, necessary piping and the small amount of electrical work . No duct work was needed.
Agree. That's a high quote for a direct unit replacement.
They say its a high price but never reference what the the going rate should be. Not a coincidence, they probably have no clue, nor have they shopped for pricing. Ignore everyone who says it is a high price. KMR actually got a great price to replace, condenser, air handler, new drain pain, evacuate and refill refrigerant.
The going rate to change a water boiler is $1500-$1800, labor is like $1000 and parts are $500-800 and thats like the easiest job. KMR got $3.5k -4k for parts with mark up. He paid like $1.5k - 2k for labor for 2-3 guys and 4-6 hours job. Evacuating the system alone takes like 2 hours.
OP, you are better off having them install a heat pump. This way you qualify for up to 5k rebate from PSEG and you can get up to 2k credit on taxes from federal govt when you file for taxes.
Yeah he may have actually gotten taken a bit. I thought he meant 5500 for an entire new install
So this guys says trade is a good job. His buddy is a wealthy HVAC business owner because of it. However, based on this comment, he thinks HVAC owners should be making below minimum wage or practically working for free, since $5500 = got taken.
Make up you mind, or at least have some subject matter references when making conflicting and moronic statements.
