good places in Hawthorne? (Los Angeles, San Diego: low crime, neighborhoods, to buy)

hi! i'm looking to buy a home, is there any safe/good places in Hawthorne? My friend used to live there in the 60-70's and tells me that place is a good working class area with low crime. is that still true today? is there still a low-crime? Basically, is there any area that is considered good/safe? I have about 400-500k to spend on a house.

Hi LAGuy. Start with the Del Air and Hollyglen areas. They're the western-most part of northern Hawthorne. Below info is from some realtor website:

The neighborhoods of Hollyglen and Del Aire are a fantastic option for couples and families who find themselves priced out of the South Bay market. Employees of the surrounding industrial parks such as Hughes, Northrop, Xerox, and TRW are also attracted to the short commute to work. To the rest of California, even to many South Bay residents, the area of Hollyglen and Del Aire is a well-kept secret. View Wiseburn School District information. Many Wiseburn students attend El Segundo High School.

Lying to the east of Manhattan Beach and south of El Segundo, Hollyglen is bounded on the north by El Segundo Boulevard, on the south by Rosecrans Avenue, on the east by the San Diego Freeway and on the west by Aviation Boulevard.

Hawthorne in the 60s and 70s was truly middle class suburbia. The city took a hard hit in the 90s and is only slowly recovering.

Interesting! I always assumed that neighborhood west of the 405 was part of El Segundo. Good to know.

hmm can't find this Hollyglen on wikipedia. where is this located. i found DEL AIRE(it has an E) and know where it is. But Hollyglen. No idea.

Yeah, i was driving by Hawthorne, and it looks like it becoming a town of gangs and run-down. I could see the old building that reminds me of the 60's. But things changed i suppose. There are graffti everywhere.

The area on Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowedthat is right below the "Los Angeles AFB," North of Rosecrans Ave. and West of the 405. It's the western-most section of Hawthorne.

I saw a YT video about an LAPD officer killing a Rottweiler that charged him-while conducting a raid in Hawthorne. It reminds me of Crenshaw Ave., seen in ”Boyz in the Hood.”

Crenshaw Blvd runs from Wilshire south through Hawthorne, where it is a border street to Rolling Hills
