I grew up in Louisville and spent 8 years in Indy, 2 in Bloomington. Indy is boring AF. Louisville is MUCH cooler/interesting. People are much friendlier also.

The only thing hindering Louisville is the one thing Indy has going for it, which is corporate diversity (and maybe proximity to Chicago)

Unrelated but would you say Louisville is south or Midwest?

Birmingham does not ask if south or midwest. Nor does Nashville. If you are asking, it's a mix. It is a german catholic and irish city with 1/4 MSA in Indiana. I think it's mostly Midwest by history but trending southern and wants to to be southern. It has a Midwest history though. Union stronghlold in Civil War etc. But being in Ky rural Ky is southern.

Anyone outside of the Southern US would say Louisville is Southern, some Louisville natives claim it is Southern, but the rest of Kentucky and other Southerners beg to disagree and would say Louisville definitely has a more Midwestern vibe. I personally think it very much depends on what part of Louisville you are in.

Outside of the Gene Snyder loop, Louisville is mostly Southern. Regarding its neighboring counties (in Kentucky), Bullitt is more Southern than Shelby, which is more Southern than Oldham.

Western Floyd County, IN is less like the South in terms of tree types. My yard is all northern with maple, beech, birch, hemlock, fir, pine, and spruce trees. It’s also 5-9F cooler than the city of Louisville in terms of climate.

Lexington, which is roughly an hour from Louisville, has a southern vibe. I've been thru Louisville a few times. Never really considered it the midwest.
