Yes. A great sound and singer from dusty Parmer County, home of my wife's grandfather's family farm.

Thanks for the input.

Greetings...

Great thread. I have come across it occasionally over the years whenever I do any sort of search for “Lubbock musicians” or similar. Great to see it’s still “alive” and going...

Although he never made a major career out of his playing, I would add Don Caldwell to the list. He and his recording studio and other promotional activities have been fixtures in the Lubbock music scene for decades, and still are. That’s not to even mention his resurrection of The Cactus Theater and all that has meant.

I’m biased, but I would add trumpet player Tommie Anderson to the list. He had his own bands over the years, but through his friendship and association with Don Caldwell and the Maines brothers, et al, he would often stand in and play with the Joe Ely Band in live performances at Fat Dawgs and elsewhere.

While I’m at it, I’ll mention Ponty Bone (born in San Antonio, attended Texas Tech, lived in Lubbock; later formed The Squeezetones) accordion player in the Joe Ely Band.

Finally, hard to believe no one has mentioned Jesse “Guitar” Taylor, raised in Lubbock and a fixture in the Joe Ely Band for many years. He passed way too soon.

Western Swing was invented in Lubbock, and taught by a fiddle player and teacher at South Plains, Joe Carr. His book is available on Amazon:

I'm guessing I saw Joe Carr at the opening of the Tom T. Hall sound stage at South Plains College at Levelland in the early 1980s?
