Well, I do believe that that is a given

Eclarim-it is one thing to stay true to your home town team, but that's just it-they ARE the home town team. You don't root for the next best thing. I have nothing ill against the Red Sox, it just seems to make more sense to me if Maine took a little more pride in it's college ball first.

A surefire way to get the cold shoulder in Maine is to have anything that says NY Yankees on your clothing or your vehicle.

Alot depends on what part of Maine you are in, what your sport is. I went from an area that is huge on high school basketball to one where football is the sport. I went to a few basketball games here and they were pathetic. Never bothered with football as I don't like it. Baseball I can take it or leave it.

Default Boston Red Sox !?!

I hear you. We're Yankee fans but God forbid that we should say that in public. Sacrilege! Around here it's all Red Sox, all the time. Try finding an objective newspaper or tv news report. Thank God for the internet. The last time we went to a Yankees game at Fenway it was like taking our lives in our hands. Actually we sat on our hands because we didn't dare cheer or applaud for our team. Red Sox fans are the worst. Gary Matthews (of the Angels) was right when he compared the Red Sox fans unfavorably to New York fans.

I think that the Red Sox mania in Maine stems largely from the huge influx of people from MA into the state. They move here to get away from all the garbage in that state, then insist on bringing it here with them. My wife just told me I'd better quit. I've stirred up enough of a hornet's nest!

and the whole thing about not supporting college ball? ....because the same percentage of Mainers aren't behind the Black Bears doesn't mean they aren't supported! seriously! lol....that's like saying the people who go to the Sea Dog games have to go to the local Little League games! apples and oranges....
