The original company was founded by T L Pelling and C H Stanley who created Pelling Stanley and Company in 1861. The company soon specialized in importing the then novel idea of canned food. By 1879 they were importing canned salmon from the John West company, to which they purchased the naming rights in 1888, and the first shipments of John West Salmon appeared in 1892.[2]

By 1924 the three companies, operating separately, were all associated with Unilever:

Angus Watson and Co.
R B Green and Co.
Pelling Stanley and Company
By 1964 Unilever had merged the three into one company, John West Foods. Branches were expanded to Australia (now John West) and Africa in 1974. In 1997 Heinz acquired the brand and John West Food company.[3] In March 2006, Heinz sold off the John West brands for EUR 425 million (£295m) to the Lehman Brothers banking group. [4]

We are shooting for April 1 or 2. Depends on how good the trip is and if we can afford to stay in a motel more than two nights. We are hoping to stop in Cape Neddick and visit the Boys and the grand kids for one night. We plan to leave Florida on March 29th. I am so excited and nervous.
We have REALLY been enjoying the papers and read and reread them. We can't tell you how much we appreciate them. You have been wonderful and I couldn't be so bold as to ask you to send anymore, but I do so appreciate the offer. You are such a great guy.
Nice to know we will be living where such nice people live. Thanks again Scott.

The best canned tuna or salmon that I have every eaten was in Scotland... canned in Fraserburgh, Scotland. My lunch for 13 days was a tuna fish sandwich and a pot of tea or Scotch broth. It was a joy to stop in a village of the Highlands, on my way to the Orkneys, and get a fresh made tuna sandwich in the grocer and walk around the village..."those were the days my friend"...no Starkist or Bumblebee for me.

abbymoulton - You may have said before and I just forgot, but where are you moving to and what is your route? I have a reason for asking, but if you're going to be too far north and west of me, it wouldn't work.

We are headed for Limestone. The route is LONG. We leave Naples, Fla or go on and on and on. We will not be taking I 95 but start from the west coast of Fla. and go many routes. When we actually get to Maine it is back to 95. I would have to ask the hubby exact route numbers. Why? I am curious now.

abbymoulton - I was going to offer you the use of my house in Eastport for a night or two to help defray motel expenses, but it's 130 miles north and east of I-95, that's why I said it might not work. If you are taking Route 1, it's only 7 miles.

Thank you so much for the offer. WOW But, we will stop in Cape Neddick with the kids and them it would only be one day (no stay overs) from there to Limestone. So very kind of you to offer. I am reminded often on the site how wonderful people for Maine are.
