Boy I could not agree with this more. When I grew up on Montgomery County in the 70's there was just auto mechanic and printing classes. Not much vocational training at all. College is not for everyone and more kids should be encouraged to work a trade, it's a good living and you don't start life with a big student loan debt.

I also agree the casinos will come roaring back once things clear, one look at the golf courses yesterday showed that.

One a side note I was wondering what gamblers were doing these days to get their fix. I learned that there are odds on simulated games, I'm not kidding.

There's an entire MCPS HS devoted specifically to vocational education (there's a second, grade 6-12+ school specific to students with learning disabilities that's heavily focused on vocational skills, as well). They are, obviously, a lot more expensive to run than a traditional school so I'm not sure why you think having more vocational schools would save $$ or result in lower taxes.

The dual education system works in Germany. I've read where there are 1.3 million Germans in vocational schools. The objective is to put students on the proper path with the long term goal of saving $$ by having fewer people on welfare, having an educated work force, etc.
