Casino revenue down in Maryland. Understandable. I wonder how much less they would be losing if they had permitted regulated internet poker like some (more progressive?) states.

some states that haven't in the past will take a serious look at legalization of pot. They need money.

I'm wondering whether Maryland will raise income taxes to recoup a large portion of the revenues it lost due to the Coronavirus shutdown.

I agree with this. As a liberal state I'm surprised Maryland has not already moved on this, I know Hogan opposes it so I guess that's my answer. But anyone who knows someone with a card can tell you the medical marijuana thing is kind of a joke, you can get one of those very easily.

What's more Maryland than making something sorta/kinda legal, but requiring all kinds of red tape, mandatory mark-up payments to middle men, registering with a bureaucratic state agency, only being allowed to buy from selected pre-determined vendors, and always (always) allowing the state to reverse course and take it back if they change their mind?

I don't know about income taxes, but many national commentators have said that its almost a sure thing that property taxes will be going up as states and localities will need money. Property taxes are the most unfair type of tax.

Taxes were going to go up prior to the pandemic anyway (unless Hogan's probable veto isn't overridden, which it will be) due to the Kirwan Plan for schools.

Th casino revenue will come roaring back as soon as things open up a bit. This is anecdotal but the lottery outlets appear to be doing a much higher business since the local slot machines-I mean video lottery terminals-were closed. There are people doing the lottery who were daily regulars at the video places.

I forgot about Ferguson, the progressive Democrat originally from Montgomery County.

They've been throwing away good money on kids not interested in traditional education for decades. What they should've done decades ago was create a two-tier system, putting students on either a college or a vocational path.

When I graduated in MD we were put in a track Academic, Commercial/Vocational, and General. I was not allowed to take metal & machine shop because I was in the Academic track.
