The citizens have plenty of say. If more people used their brains to think for themselves instead of being emotionally driven by big business and corrupt politicians through the media, we wouldn't have so many problems.

No not at all. I think most retirees moving south, not familiar with areas, want to feel safe and secure, in their golden years.I am from New England, and retired south....more crime in MA.

Violent crime is overall consistently higher in the Southern states, and that's not even debatable. The debatable part relates to causation. Retirees don't generally relocate to local areas in the South with high violent crimes rates, although I'm sure some do. The state of South Carolina has some of the highest violent crime rates in the South Atlantic region, yet the state attracts many retirees from Northern states. They go to areas that have low crime rates.
