My son recently returned from Afghanistan and he asked me "Dad why do we guard opium production?". I told him that here stateside many feel that we have an 'opium crisis' and many local politicians spend money to combat the opium crisis, we would not have an opium crisis if opium were not cheap and readily available. To feed the opium crisis the Federal government must spend even more to maintain the flow of opium. Americans demand their opium. It sounds odd to spend tax money on both sides of the equation, both the supply and the demand. But we do.

I know I wrote I was done, but I just can’t let this go. Where was your son deployed to in AFG? Which opium field, or production plant, did he think he was guarding? What is his unit? Is he civilian or military?
I’d like to look into all of this.
