Are there any hiking trails around the Starkville area that anyone knows of? I'm talking about places you can hike and walk your dog or ride a bike that are at least more than 2-3 miles long? I'm not talking about concrete walkways around ponds, but more woodsy and dog friendly?

If not already, download the Alltrails App and look up the Noxubee Trails system in the Tombigbee National Forest (between Louisville and Ackerman). There are plenty of options. Keep your dog on a leash and you'll be fine. Closer to campus is the Noxubee Refuge. Please note that gun season for deer will be open until 31 Jan, during my day (30 years ago), public hunting was allowed on the refugee (not sure about Tombigbee), stay tight on the trail and wear plenty of orange. Within a couple of hours, in North Bama, there is plenty of good hiking.

Tanglefoot Trail starts in Houston, 39 miles north of Starkville.

Tishomingo and Trace State Parks, about an hour or so north of Starkville are pretty places to walk.

Cornerstone Park in Starkville which just opened. I"m not positive if all phases of that park are completed but it's supposed to have a walking path going around the entire park and is supposed to be very nice.

You might also try Jeff Busby State Park about 20 minutes west of Starkville which has Little Mountain (a small hill with an overlook which is usually pretty during fall with fall colors)

But Noxubee Trails are noted above are great, as is Noxubee Wildlife Refuge.

The Natchez Trace runs just west of Starkville. I"m not certain if they have paths along that stretch or not but worth checking out

Also the brand new Lynn Lane path in Starkville; Plymouth Bluff in Columbus; the Riverwalk in Columbus; and a nice park down in Louisville.

But you should really enjoy Noxubee mountain trail in Tombigbee National forest. I think those trails are at least 32 miles. Choctaw Lake is there also.

Unfortunately there are no trails that meet your criteria right in Starkville. It's just too small of a town, and there's very little public land around.

Viverlibre and brick gave good recommendations. I'll second the AllTrails app, or even just using the website without the premium payments.

I will also mention that while the trails in the Tombigbee National Forest area really good ones, be very aware of hunting season. Don't go early morning/late evening, wear "hunter orange" vest and hat, etc. For trail maps go here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/ivm/ and zoom in. Tombigbee is a scattered forest with multiple segments; closest are between Ackerman and Louisville and up near Houston.

Thanks everyone for the comments. This Plymouth Bluff looks like the kind of place I was looking for. Also, I would rather it be something east of Starkville, and not west. Columbus is fine.

Thanks again.
