Hi I was wondering what the law is about keeping a dog in the car? Here in Brisbane Aus you will get a BIG fine.
Alot of stupid people leave them in even with windows down and they die because of the heat.
Im just saying if you are going to the store for 20min ect.

In Montana? Most dogs ride in the back of the pick-up on top of the tool box!

Common sense prevails. There is no law specific to leaving them in a car, but if someone stupidly leaves a dog in the car on a hot day then animal cruelty or neglect charges could apply. Keep in mind that Montana only has 3-4 months of the year when overheating is going to be an issue.

LOL! Here's an assembly of dogs in pick-ups (can you count how many?) outside the Emigrant General Store north of Gardiner.

Why in the world would you take your dog to the store in the first place, just to leave him sitting in the car? why not just leave him at home? just wondering.

Why not take your dog if he's your companion? They enjoy riding shotgun anywhere! They're like "are we going hunting? Are we going fishing? Are we going to a field? OOOHHHHHH!!! We're at the dog treat place! Yayyyy!!!"

Maybe you've been out hiking/ hunting/ playing or other legitimate dog activities and need to stop at the store on the way home.

I got my dog to be a companion and to help out with work around here. She goes where I go.

If I'm in the truck, she's either on the seat next to me, of in the back if it's nice outside. If I stop at the store, she stays in the back and won't jump out no matter what. Unless I give her the command to jump out.

If I'm on my 4 wheeler, she's on the tool box looking over my shoulder. Just for a ride, she's right there. If I'm plowing snow, she's right there watching over my shoulder.

If I'm on the tractor, she's either standing on the axle and hitch, or she's on the trailer if I'm pulling one, or even on the big round hail bail if I have it on the front. I go into town to get grocery's on my 4 wheeler. 20 miles, one way. I get to the grocery store and tell her to stay, she sets down on the tool box and is still there when I come out. Yes, I take water and set it up there with her while I'm in the store.

I've taken her down town. No leash. I've walked down the street and she's within 1 ft of my leg. She doesn't get ahead of me, she doesn't lag behind. We've had cats walk across within 5 ft of us and she never even turns her head. She's constantly watching ahead, or watching me paying attention. We've had cat's hiss at her. Nothing.

My dog is my companion and goes with me, everywhere I go. Why would I leave her home and neglect her for hours on end?
