However, the first link, which is unfortunately broken, relates to the development called 'the standard', which will purportedly be built at the site of Vic's automobile warehouse and the Shell station on University Ave. If anybody can figure out what this agenda item is about, pass it along to us -- I was hoping to see some plans, oh well..

Planning commission updates: an impressive structure, will require nullification of Wall St (runs between Vic's and the Shell station). 10 stories above grade, parking on each level, but apartments and windows facing out on all sides.
692 parking spaces (in 12 levels of parking; "Texas donut" style of a parking garage wrapped by the residential and nonresidential portions of the development)
indoor bike storage for 276 bikes
possible kayak storage and/or rental (that's pretty neat)
13,000+ sf of commercial space, 8,000+ sf of retail space
a new trailhead
buried utilities
mention of a pedestrian bridge (Michael Mills, local architect on the Downtown Design Review Committee said it was a "must"), but I couldn't find any description of one or where it would be
[EDIT - The ped bridge is only in a couple of renderings, as it was added after the Design Review Committee pushed for it. If you look at the rendering Adam gave, you can see it going over University at the middle of the structure. It's only conceptual, so the design of it is still up in the air.]
Between this and the VFW site...I couldn't be happier. Both of these projects are more "adult" in design and look like something that you'd see out of proper urban housing. I really hope that design sticks and doesn't get dumbed down...looks classy and like a downtown centerpiece for future developments to follow.
If a possible ped bridge is built, it would be across to Wall Street between the existing garage and Bookholders. That'll be phenomenal for Chestnut St and the entertainment options there as it brings foot traffic from the Standard and the rail trail as well as from High Street. The visibility afforded would definitely be a boon for businesses there and the expansion of downtown offerings in general.
After looking through the stuff online. I really like this project. There are a few things I worry about, but nothing major. I think this would be a great use for that site.

What things, out of curiosity? I hope that if the city voids Wall St., that the developer will pay the city fair value for the real estate (if that's legal for cities to do in WV).
