Visiting Morgantown / Cheat Lake (campgrounds, taxi, live)

Hi folks

Looking for some input from some locals.

Got a group of 6 guys looking to getaway for a weekend. Was hoping to stay within walking distance to the lake and then cab into town for night life if needed.

Are there cabins / cottages near the lake or is it all campgrounds? Is it okay to bring booze with you?

Cheat lake is not the typical recreational mecca like Deep Creek or even Tygart for that matter. There are no cabins at the lake or campgrounds for that matter. Cheat Lakes recreational traffic is from locals that dock their boats there and rich folk who live on the lake. Lakeview Resort is near the lake and you could stay there. They have a nice restaurant and night club. And there is taxi service to Morgantown where there is a lot of night life.

yea Cheat Lake was a huge disappointment to me when I first moved here....its got so much potential but just goes largely unused.....oh well, honestly it dont get hot enough here to truly enjoy a whole day at the lake anyway....
