I have a bunch of their songs on the Tomorrow Will Be Worse compilation.
Which bands are recommendable of the older bands?
I´m thinking about the Effigies,Articles Of Faith and Naked Rayguns and those bands.
Were they any good?
I like Naked Raygun, I think they're a really good band. The Effigies are pretty cool too, but could be an acquired taste. They get a lot of comparison to The Ruts (another sweet band) and an American version of The Clash. They still play here and there, I've missed them both times I could've seen them though. I never really got into Articles of Faith.
I can't exactly put my finger on what it is that makes Midwestern bands like this distinct, but it seems like most of these bands play a style that is a little more broad than straight-forward punk/hardcore and have a slightly more angsty/alienated attitude compared to the more aggressive East and West Coast acts. Some people really dig this sort of thing (see: The Replacements, Violent Femmes, Husker Du, etc), others don't.

The Effigies put out a release called "Remains Nonavailable" or something to that nature of a lot of their material. I believe it's on Touch & Go. You should be able to find them, Articles of Faith and Naked Raygun through the usual channels you might go through to get punk CDs (even Amazon should have it)

oh and of course walls of jericho! candace scares the hell out of me lol
Eh. I still like "Forming", but honestly I never really liked much besides that. I'll still say that "Forming" is one of the best punk tracks ever written though.

I saw a Punk documentary on IFC and the forefathers of the sound like Tommy Ramone, Debbie Harry, and Mick Simonson of the Clash all agreed that Punk died in 1980. I was being generous when I said 86. These emo pop punk pukes are laughed at by the true punk legends.

I disagree. Punk has it's roots with a skinny guy from Michigan named Iggy Pop. If you listen to old Iggy & the Stooges, think Lust for Life, I Wanna Be Your Dog, Search & Destroy ... that's the roots, the Pistols, Ramones and Clash brought it to the people and after Sid Vicious killed Nancy and died himself, it backed down a bit, but came back without as much oomph with Buzzcocks, Damned, Fugazi ... it went a bit back into the underground and morphed into other genres like new wave. It's all about cycles. But true punk ... look to the Ig.
