There are a lot songs that fall into the "one hit wonder" status. Two of them come to me right away----

Norman Greenbaum--Spirit In The Sky
Hey Baby!--Bruce Chanell

Default afternoon delight

Murray Head also had a hit with "Jesus Christ, SuperStar."
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight," although I guess if you want to get technical, Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert also sang on "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

Ah-Ha, Take On Me. They are still living off that song almost 40 years later.

Probably my favorite music video of all time.
Don McClean, American Pie. Anyone said that yet?

I would argue that this 80s song qualifies. I was an 80s teen when this came out. I can't recall a single 2nd hit from this group for that time period. Meanwhile, the longevity is extreme. They still get played a lot on the 80s stations. This song gets played more than other 80s bands like Oingo Boingo, the Cure, or even the 1984 hit Michael Jackson had made with his brother for the Victory Tour (not the hits from Thriller - but another song that came out Spring of 1984 by the Jackson).

But they have no other song that was a multi-decade playing hit. Just this one. It was such a one-hit wonder that I don't think many 80s teens would know the singers name but would know the lyrics really well.
