True. Use to play the chit out of that one. It hit #16 on Billboard Dance Chart in '89 and it did get regular radio airplay on top 40 stations (at least in Austin and Houston).
I remember this song, but I never realized that it was a Peter Schilling tune.
Most of these are great, but some are obvious fails. You can pick out thousands of “popular” songs from the 60/70s that many people have never heard of, certainly not a “hit.” Some obscure song that may have barely made it into the top 20 over 30 years ago doesn’t count as a one hit wonder for me.
For me it’s a song many people have heard or could recognize even today, but from a band that remains in obscurity. Some of you guys are trying to bust other people’s one hit wonders by posting some other song the band did that no one’s really heard of.
Vanilla Ice, though I don’t care much for rap music overall, was as big as Eminem in the early 90’s and had several hits. It’s not like he had one hit and disappeared. Half the people at school owned one of his cassettes.
I listen to a lot of 60/70s music and, while a couple of these songs may have been popular for very brief time periods, I’ve never heard them before and don’t think a lot of people, even people who distinctly remember the 60s, would recognize that song. Another example is “Sweet Harmony”, how many people were listening to this? It’s not even in the top 100 for 1993, forget top 20. It made it to 23 on the niche dance pop club music for the year. A far cry from a “hit.”
A few one hit wonders from the Spring/Summer of 1966 that did okay sales wise--
Double Shot Of My Baby's Love--Swingin' Medallions
The Pied Piper--Crispian St. Peter
Hey Little Girl--Syndicate of Sound
Psychotic Reaction--Count Five
Hey Joe!--Leaves
Walking My Cat Named Dog--Norma Tanega
Elusive Butterfly--Bob Lind
Love Makes the World Go Round--Deon Jackson
Shades Of Blue--Oh How Happy
Summertime--Billy Stewart
Beside having this two week #1 song in 2008 become the #1 country song of that year, James also is a co-writer of "In Color" from Jamey Johnson and "No Hurry" from the Zac Brown Band which were both top ten songs.
God bless you and him and his songwriting circle members always!!!

Billy Stewart wasn't a one-hit wonder.
Just on the Pop charts alone, he had several other hits (never mind the R&B charts).
