The general sales tax rate is 9.25-9.75% and for groceries its 6.25-6.75%.

Compare to 8.25-8.63% in LI, NY.

Electricity is far cheaper. Water bills will probably be more expensive.

Taxes will be significantly lower.

The single biggest factor is your living situation - can you find comparable housing.

Nashville home prices have really shot up the last 2 years - 50% increase in home price is not uncommon.

You will probably see it everywhere you are looking though.

Murfreesboro may be a good option. It is more affordable than Nashville. There are many new homes as well as mature neighborhoods. Murfreesboro has 3 general hospitals and 2 specialty hospitals, the Alvin C. York V.A. Hospital and Trustpoint Hospital. I am not sure about salaries, but given the shortage of medical professionals in this area, negotiating a good salary shouldn't be difficult.

Thanks. People forget, even in low sales tax states, 6% is routine, plus our biggest costs (housing, insurance, gas, medical costs) are not subject to sales taxes. Sales taxes are mainly for eating out, much of groceries, plus clothing.

General TN state sales tax is 7%. Because of the Improve Act, tax on groceries is 4%

Each county adds it's own to make a final rate from 8.50% to 9.75%. Depends on the county & zip code. Because of changing zip codes the area covered may change.

Property tax may depend if you live in an Urban Service Area or a General Service Area. With service you get waste management. Water depends on what watershed district you are connected to. For electricity everyone gets TVA generated power. Your local utility distributes it to you. So for both water & electricity the district may have different rates & set up different plans.

The great news is there is no income tax of any kind.

Will have to watch what changes TN will make for 2022. Watch for Sales Tax Holiday at end of July.
