Ah, interesting! Sort of a high tech variation on the old fashioned garden trellis. The pattern is visible enough to suggest to a bird there's a solid grid blocking its flight path but transparent enough not to block the view from the inside.

Here's a picture of the building and a story. Of course there's a whinger.

You can see why the bird strike film was needed. The view is of the south side, the east side is facing the Chesapeake about 200 ft. from the water.
