Does anyone have recommendations for a squirrel-proof feeder inaccessible to squirrels who launch themselves onto the feeder from nearby structures?

I like my feeders positioned where I can view the birds from my living room, but each feeder is either close to a deck railing or hanging from a tree.

The feeders cannot be placed out further from the house due to community rules/common areas.

I have one of these. Squirrel goes on the ledge and it drops and closes the food hatches. Just make sure you lock the top down securely (it has a catch in back).

I have one of THESE and have had it for years.
The squirrels gave up on it long ago.

Another fan of The Squirrel Buster line. I have 4 of them, and they work to keep the squirrels out of the feed. It's the deer that I battle. They just push the feeders with their noses until the seed pours into their mouths. I had to out up some metal fencing to keep them from getting close enough.

I had one of those, and not only did it keep the squirrels from getting the seeds, but it killed one. He had somehow managed to get his head into the seed opening when his weight pulled it down onto his neck and hung him to death.

My dad put his feeder on the top of a 4x4 post. Found some thin sheets of tin that he put around the post, but wrapped the bottom first, then the top. That way, the critters couldn't jump up and grab the top of that bottom sheet and work their way up. So it wouldn't be so shiny, he sprayed it with dark green paint. Post finally rotted out at ground level last year. That was a shame. It had only been standing there almost 25 years. After a few years he nailed some hangers sticking out from the top and hung a couple finch feeders off them. Kept him busy refilling everything.

I have one that is a clear plastic bowl, with a larger clear plastic dome upside down over it. Not sure if they make it anymore. The whole thing is hung by a rod going through the middle of both pieces. I hung it from a tree. Squirrels would come down the rope, look at the top dome, and give up. Also kept out larger birds, only small birds can fit in there.

Yup. These are the best for keeping those wiley gray critters away from the birdseed.

Seem to recall they also carry clear acrylic domes you can order separately to retrofit other feeders.

My climate is pretty wet/cold during bird feeding season. I've tried a couple of feeders that shut down when a squirrel's weight lands on them but found they allow too much moisture build up in the seed hopper. Makes the seed sticky/moldy or freezes it into a clump. It won't feed into the ports reliably and I don't want the birds eating moldy seed.
