Greenwich is the king of the NY metro, but it has its share of gaudy properties. The vast majority of Greenwich is tasteful. Surprisingly, it has some lower-end neighborhoods particularly near Port Chester. You wouldn't believe you were in Greenwich. Alpine is more on the gaudy side, and is miniscule.
As far as other towns go, NJ has many wealthy towns vs. Connecticut where the wealth is concentrated (in a staggering way) in one county. As far as feel, I would say Princeton is somewhat similar to Greenwich, with an expansive, upscale downtown and elegant neighborhoods. Westchester is also an impressive area. There are so many choices if you have the $$$. But nothing has the status of Greenwich.

IMHO few spots in NJ such as Bedminster are more comparable to Greenwich, CT than Alpine, NJ on various levels.
When you go down list of notable persons in or from Alpine, NJ it's a laundry list of very new money; mostly film actors, sports figures, bankers/Wall Street and so forth. Again leaving aside the Frick family very little of "old money" along with their values and tastes are evident.
