I had to butt in since supermarkets were being mentioned, and I highly recommend Wegmans as a #1 choice, then shoprite.. just my 0.02! Welcome to Jersey..
okay, didn't know what country he was going to be moving to. I'm talking from a Bergen-centric point of view.

Anyway, as far as grocery shopping go to the nicest store near you, one chain is not necessarily better in all areas.
If you're near Wayne there's a Trader Joe's there.
Trader Joe's is okay, Shop Rite never went well with me, usually low quality, quite dirty, I prefer A&P. Whole Foods of course is nice also, esp for meats, though expensive.

I hate to food shop, but I love going to Wegmans. Whenever my wife is going, I always tag along.
When somebody says to you "how you doin" they don't care how your doing. It's the Jersey way of saying "yeah I see you now what do you want?"
At least is better than "bless your heart"

Oh, come on now.. I'm from the Midwest (though, right on the "South" border), and even I know that the South owns all.
In fact, (not to start anything or cause any problems LOL) I was told this weekend that New Jersey people are the rudest people in America. That is not my opinion. It's just what I was told. I'm pretty sure this person was exaggerating a bit. Every region/state/town has rude people. I'm trying to go into things with an open mind.
When I visited California for the first time, I thought people were trying to hit on me, since Californians were always so nice and talkative to me. A sharp contrast from NJ/NYC area....LOL
I really can't say if New Jersey or Manhattan people are rude, since been living in NJ almost my whole life. It's all relative to me. I find Californians to be overly nice, e.g. saying 'how are you today' with a smile, some stranger passing by saying hello, it's all just strange to me....
