We live in Dona Ana County, just outside of Las Cruces. It is a great place for retirees. The weather is great and the people are fantastic. If you enjoy southwestern food, it can't be beat for the food in the area, or all over NM for that matter.

Nothing in New Mexico? Most of those places are too expensive for social security recipients.

maimazda:

You bought a piece of property without seeing it first?

Isn't that pretty risky?

Default Just joined and need input for retirement spot

Hi Everyone,

I am so glad I found this forum. I would like to retire in New Mexico. I don't know what city but I am looking for a city which has a mild climate similar to Southern CA where I live. A little rain is fine. I am not concern about the cost but that it is a safe place with good recreation and medical facility. I love to run and bicycle.

If you have a place in mind for me to check out, could yoiu also give me the zip code so I can go to realtor.com for housing.

Try relocating to Las Cruces, NM. It is a very popular retirement city and has lots of new residents from southern, California.

A little rain is all you will find anywhere in NM. The winters are probably quite a bit colder than SoCal, too, unless you live at a high elevation.

Just stay away from the north if you want to keep the relative climate you have in California. I agree with the poster who lauded Las Cruces. And I can't stress enough to avoid the Clovis/Portales/Roswell corridor. lol
