Although I respect Skye1974's opinion, I have to disagree on the current/future state of Lansing. I was born in Lansing and lived there all of my life until 4 years ago when I moved to St. John. My parents still live there and I visit often. I know the town like the back of my hand, and I see how it's changed and is still changing every day.

The robberies/violent crimes have escalated, particularly on Torrence Ave because the poorer individuals come in from the city to go to River Oaks. They get off the expressway at Torrence, and can make a quick getaway back on the expressway. It's sad, but it's true. I personally know 3 business owners on Torrence who have been robbed more than once each in the last 3 years. I see how the neighborhoods have changed, the schools have changed, and it goes on and on. I still love Lansing, especially uptown by the Kilroy's area, but the facts and stats don't lie. It's just not the town it used to be, and South Holland and Cal City started out the same way.

If facts and stats don't lie, then tell me why Lansing's crime has not had a dramatic rise in eight years despite the fact that Calumet City's has skyrocketed. Tell me why two of the district schools (Memorial for the second year in a row, Reavis for the first) are on the Illinois State Board of Education's Honor Roll. How exactly have the neighborhoods changed?

And let me guess, some of these "poorer individuals" are from Gary, too right?

Hey OPSMAN: Talk about narrow minded...you inferred that I relied on the good "name" of MHS to get me through college. Did it ever occur to you that maybe the Munster school system prepares its students - as an absolute minimum - to compete well in college? Didn't think so. I also never said that other schools don't...it's just not as well emphasized as it is in Munster.

My point still stands, even if you can't deal with it, that Munster has historically had (and still does) a high proportion of professionals living there and that these people have significantly higher expectations and different life experiences than others do that may live in surrounding communities. What's superior about that observation? My parents certainly were not rich, but there is an educational expectation halo effect that you can't help but be influenced by. This is what I attribute to the elevated performance of even normal students like me. Maybe if you didn't give in to the your temptation to insult me based on inferences and prejudices, I'd be would more inclined to hire a person like you.
