People have said I should check out Northeast Ohio because it's hilly and gets a lot of snow but it doesn't seem hilly enough for me and the property taxes up there are ridiculous. How snowy does it get in Southeast Ohio (specifically near Pittsburgh, Akron, or Huntington) compared to somewhere I know gets lots of snow like Boone, NC?

Boone, North Carolina is not listed in either my Weather America 1st or 3rd editions. Wikipedia lists Boone as averaging either nearly 25" or 25.6", depending on whether you read the text or look at the chart.

Weather America
1st edition
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 42.9"
Akron-Canton Airport (located between Akron and Canton, hence the name) 47.3"
Huntington, West Virginia 26.1"
Transou, North Carolina 25.8"

Keep in mind that as you go south, the number of days of >1" snow depth tends to diminish
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 42
Akron-Canton Airport 47
Huntington, West Virginia 21
Transou, North Carolina 18

As far as property taxes, I pay about $3150 annually for house & land appraised at $210,000. If I had more house and less land (15 acres), the taxes would be higher.

The 3rd edition of Weather America is available for $195, or $244 as an eBook:
