Ladies and gents,
I would like to know which car insurance companies are better for new arrivals with their foreign driving license?
I'm green card holder will arrive in OKC and should have to drive a car with my local driving license until getting Oklahomans one.
Could you please share your opinion about which is the best and cheapest car insurance company there? I have 8 years driving records here in my country and i want them to count it as experience as well and noticed most of companies are ignored foreign driving records

It is highly unlikely that you will receive any credit for non US driving records.

There is no cheap insurance for drivers with foreign licenses. My suggestion is to visit a local insurance broker who will be able to shop for you. You will also need renter's insurance. Your vehicle has to be insured when you drive it off the dealer's lot.

As your driver's license is also your main picture ID I strongly suggest making it a priority on your to-do-list.

Have you requested your Social Security number with your GC petition? If not - wait two weeks for your activation to circle through the system then request it in person at the local Social Security office. Bring all your documentation.

Thanks for quick response. So probably the steps will be same as you mentioned above.when i was filling out the DS 260 Immigration form, i have put check for sending SSN to my OKC mailing address, but the experience said that few days after my arrival i need to visit SSA office. After getting social security card first thing i will go for driving test exam.have already got and read OK driving manual. But it should going to take at least 2 weeks all these process and i need to drive with my own international driving license through these days and to have insurance as well.

OK is a bit different - you need to go to Department of Public Safety to get cleared for your driver's license then to Tag Office to get your license. Cash or check; credit card not accepted or costs extra.

You cannot transfer your license?

Do you plan to buy a vehicle immediately or rent one for the first few weeks?

What does it mean to transferring license?
Probably i'm going to buy vehicle directly after first few days, because rent a car is expensive don't want to waste money on that.

Depending on which country issued your license you can turn it in for an OK license.

OK Department of Public Safety and OK Tag Office have details.

I've had good luck with Wiedemann Insurance out of Yukon. They are just a broker. I use Okie Quote Insurance for my home, but Wiedemann is cheaper on car insurance. Shelter has good prices too. I shop around a lot. It pays to do that at least once a year. Things change sometimes for the better or worse. Best thing to do is make sure you get a credit card and build a positive credit history. It is not fair but almost every state in the nation, except California where I am from, uses credit score based insurance pricing. Every move you make with insurance or your credit will change your pricing for insurance. Sometimes it is best to not report a claim.

Thanks for your feedback, but i have checked very small amount of companies working with international driving licenses. So i have already spoke to Progressive Insurance, i will bring my insurance history ( translated and notarised) which i do have here, and it will make some discounts in rate. Then as soon as i'm planning to get oklahoma's driving license and will change plan.
