I kind of looked into Omaha to make sure I don't move into another place that would quickly turn agendas to something I try to escape. I do notice some concerning patterns, ie Omaha almost succeeded to a bag ban but the mayor vetoed it and fortunately it was not overridden. Surprised for a city in a red state this far from the coasts to even get such a close call. Meaning the council is already pretty neoliberal. Which seems a disease like COVID for many smaller country or govermental agencies around the world being easy bait since they want to look good to the global community or under peer pressure to conform.

Speaking of which I saw reports that the mayor was very aggressive on COVID measures for a republican mayor threatening to arrest or fine people for using open public spaces. Many republican ran parts of the country may have guidelines but never take any enforcement actions compared to Democrat ruled areas, even in California know for heavy restrictions enforcement varied greatly locally, places like Orange County cities even including major Democrat parts of it like Santa Ana, Buena Park, almost handed out no citations while others like Manhatton beach, Carlsbad, San Diego, and some other LA area cities gone pretty much mad with power and almost felt like a police state.

Thus if I were to move I probably choose a place outside Omaha proper but still in the metro area.

Though another concern is that many people say taxes are high in this part of the country for some reason. Is this correct?

Winders can be very cold, but we usually don't get a lot of snow. Summer can be hot and a bit humid. Fall is wonderful! Spring - well, that depends on how many severe thunderstorms we get (in general, their number appears to be declining as they dry line shifts east). It's a continental climate, for sure!

Property taxes are high in both Nebraska and Iowa, yes. Can't have adequate services without paying taxes!

Be curious whether the taxation is worth it. Some places tax alot but its like giving candy to little ones. I heard Dakotas maintain their roads better than Nebraska is this true despite much lower taxes?

As someone who's in Nebraska several times a month and lives in South Dakota, I can say when it comes to the eastern 1/3rd of BOTH states, there is a very miniature difference as to road maintenance. Because of the huge temperature difference through the year, each state's roads take a beating and keeping these roads at a drivable quality is done pretty well. I seldom travel off the interstates in the western 2/3rds areas of both states to give an opinion. BIG difference is that SD handles the upkeep of their roads with a much smaller tax burden on it's citizens.

Thank you, this is very helpful. Do you use the extremely low temp anti-freeze in your vehicle (-20 and below)? When would you say the nicest time of year is to visit, is it the fall?
