This story about Tableland is hilarious. A life is lost without reason. I don't think Taylor was so innocent. He stole from Knight. That was serious crime. You don't steal from people for off-grid living. People want to have the kind of security that when they come back everything is there. I don't believe in what he said he believed Knight was dead. He could ask around. Nobody else took Knights belongings, and he was a new comer. Bad decision. I think Taylor got a steal for serving only 5 years for killing someone.

The whole situation reminds me of Paradise, CA. They ran out of water to douse the fire with.

Can’t you dig a pond and collect rain and snow water?

Do you know the annual rainfall for those tablelands?

Not really. I saw a Wild Bill Lake at the east end of Tableland. I assume it is formed by rain/snow water? Is it feasible to collect snow and let it melt to collect water? Just some guessing.

So basically we are doomed to dwell on tableland? It is such a shame. What a nice HOA it would be if some developer fence up along the rim and make a gated HOA out of it.

That area gets about 14 inches of rain per year, mostly in the winter.

There are plenty of HOA style communities in Central Oregon. They are all over the place from Sunriver to Crooked River Ranch. And they all have water and other amenities.
