My son is in seventh grade this year, and he asked me a question that I really didn’t know the answer too so I thought I’d ask on here and hopefully someone can help me answer his question. My son weighs about 90 pounds and is 5-2 tall. And he where’s a shoe size 7.5 us in mens. He told me most everyone in his class is bigger than him. So I wanted to come on here and find out how other children around his age (12-13) compare in size. He didn’t seam upset or anything. He was more curious.
Thanks a bunch
Haley

Boys have a growth spurt somewhere around the early teen years, most of the time. When my son was in the 8th grade, he went from being on the shorter side of average in comparison to his classmates to one of the tallest ones in the class! I remember driving up on the first day to drop him off and thinking, WOW, he grew a ton over the summer!

Then by sophomore year, he was back to being on the shorter side of average. He's 5'9". Most of his friends happen to be over 6 feet. So those kids he was towering over at age 13 are now towering over him.

As long as your son's doctor says he's growing fine, just assure him that he'll catch up in time. His height at 12 doesn't really mean much about how tall he'll be at 18 or 20, which is when boys stop growing. He'll probably be somewhere around the height of his dad when he's an adult.

We don't know your son, the pediatrician does.
Some kids grow faster than other.
Much depends on genetics, food, activities etc. Kids can't change the genes that will determine how tall they will be or when puberty starts.
If their parents are tall, chances are their kids will be tall too.

An average weight for a 13-year-old boy is between 75 and 145 pounds.
Boys' normal height can range from 4'11" at the 10th percentile to 5' 5 3/4" at the 90th percentile.

Other sources list 5'1" and 100 lbs.

"According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average height for a 13-year-old boy is 5' 1 3/4" 1. Boys' normal height can range from 4'11" at the 10th percentile to 5' 5 3/4" at the 90th percentile. The average weight for boys at that age is 102 pounds, with a range from 80 pounds at the 10th percentile to 135 pounds at the 90th percentile."

There is a wide range of normal.

Everyone's timing for growth spurts is different and he's probably not had his yet, but there are definite disadvantages, IMO, to being the smallest kid in class. A data point: back when I was his age (slightly older, I was 13 and change), I was the most kid-like looking student in my (rather huge, 3500 kids) high school. I was about his height, had a 6 US shoe size, but weighed a bit more than him. I can't say I enjoyed that very much. Teenagers don't tend to be particularly respectful or understanding of those who don't look like them, be it skin color, weight, height, intelligence level or style of clothing. So it's good he's not upset about it, but that may yet change and if I was you, I'd prepare myself for that eventuality. And if you're truly concerned, definitely talk to his pediatrician.
