I just wonder because I don’t have kids. He is just so funny and seems extra smart but maybe it’s normal. He will be 3 in August. I was telling him how there was a toy missing for a long time and the dog found it. He said to me “it was under the couch”. I just thought it was so smart that he understood what I was saying. A few months ago we were at a restaurant. They gave him a toy from. “Treasure chest”. A few weeks later when we were there he asked about the “treasure chest”. He knows the alphabet. He knows all colors and animals. He usually knows when someone is joking with him. Maybe it’s normal intelligence but I like to witness it.

It sounds normal for a child where the parents are paying attention and teaching the child as he grows.

Some of the kids hit elementary school and can't form a sentence and I am supposing that those kids have been parked in front of the TV and not interacted with. But a normal child is a little super absorbent sponge at age 3 and they will absorb knowledge like crazy if the knowledge is presented to them.

At one point when my nephews were all under the age of six, they spoke 5 languages, because five languages were spoken in their vicinity and they simply absorbed them all.

My mom used to say, they're all smart until they go to school. lol.

It's kind of true. I think as parents we often get amazed by seeing our babies and toddlers learn and do new things. People sometimes think that if their kid is walking, talking or reading before the others that they are gifted or smarter but I don't think anyone really knows for sure until you start seeing how they perform in school. I also don't think school and testing is a measure of everyone's intelligence and talents in the same way, but it is what it is. We live in a society where for the most part people have to do well in school to be successful.

A friend of mine’s daughter was about 3 years old. We were playing “concentration” where you spread out playing cards face down, then turn over two at a time looking for a match. Kid didn’t seem to be paying attention, but she beat her mom and me. She grew up and became a doctor. Her own kids are sharp as tacks, too.

That's why toddlers are so much fun for aunts and grandparents.

The kids are always learning new things and when they express this, aunties and grandmammas go gaga.

Toddlers are learning something new every day.

It is fun to be with them as they age. I do not think he is displaying anything out of the ordinary. Its clear he is not delayed, which is a blessing. Get involved, support reading, creativity, logical and independent thinking ... It is indeed fun to witness them develop. Kid often go through different phases and don't be scared if there are ebbs and flows. But just enjoy being a good uncle and support the child with love. Good job Uncle!
