Now living on Floridas east central coast, want to move to Pensacola to be closer to friends now that I am a senior citizen. What are housing prices like for a 3/2 home? Insurance?

You should be able to find smaller, older 3/2's in decent neighborhoods for under $200k. Newer construction will be higher.

Neighborhoods in Pensacola are much more racially mixed (white and black) than PSL. Will possibly having black neighbors be a culture shock for you?

I don't know about insurance numbers, but south of I-10 will be higher than north of I-10.

Formerly lived in and grew up in New Orleans. Been here 10 years. Have family near Ft Walton and friends still in Nola. Thinking P. Would be sorta in the middle. No family here, son and wife died.

Pensacola isn’t the safest place. I don’t drive there at night. There’s places near Pensacola that are safer. Also, I’ve read the drinking water there is some of the worst in the country.

There are definitely parts of Pcola to avoid but there are also plenty of areas that are safe. Saying you won’t drive through “Pensacola” in general at night sounds a bit extreme. But you are right about the water, sadly.

Have you been to Niceville? Or at least priced it recently? Homes are hard to come by, as the schools are the best in the county. With the nearby bases, it keeps the prices up.

What price range are you looking for?

Default Niceville

Am a retired senior. A two bedroom two bath with a nice yard is fine. Budget $250k.

The only thing about Niceville is that it's so dominated by military and DoD families that it may be tough to find a community if you have no military connection.
