I am African American. Pace and Milton seem really nice. Are there are a lot of racists there?

It doesn't matter how diverse any area is, there will still be people with prejudices.

Sadly, there is still racial prejudice in America. However, the Panhandle of FLORIDA having a strong Christian Culture and being ultra conservative is in my opinion an area with far less racism . All the churches in the Pace/Milton area have a good blend of whites and blacks and i see a great deal of harmony in the people . Afterall, we are all ONE RACE in Gods eyes and have the same color blood when we cut ourselves . I welcome you to the area if you decide on it.

Agreed in bold, I'd have to disagree with the rest here. From what I've seen it is some of the worst racism still in the country along with certain areas of MS/AL/GA/LA/SC outside of the major cities. I have seen it in all aspects of society, shopping, eating out, office, school. It is out in the open and blatant. Not necessarily Milton/Pace but... this whole area of the country.

If it is not the worst, I don't know what is.

Again, you are welcome to your opinion.

I have heard from many posters that they have lived here 20 years and never experienced it, I beg to differ and see it or hear it on an almost daily basis. It is actually a major reason of why I am leaving the area.

It doesnt suprise me that racism would be in that area, so OP, if you are AA, I'd probably suggest another area of FL.

I definitely agree with you about the strong Christian culture and ultra conservative part. The rest is a nice dream.

Pace and Milton are effectively small Deep South towns. I'm not going to say racial issues are any better or worse than what you'd get in a big or northern city, but it's decidedly different, and whether you'd feel comfortable there is something I couldn't really predict.

If you do look in the area, I'd probably go for a neighborhood that skews toward Whiting Field employees since the military culture tends to be relatively colorblind.

Not to long ago someone posted they were white and wanted to live in at least 98% all white community and they were raked through the coals for even asking that same question. They were called a racist and everything else in the book for asking a simple question they had the right to ask.

There are racist in every town, but you have to know that racism is not just one color either, it is all around you.

It will be hard to find a totally non racist town anywhere as racism is alive and well everywhere. But you must understand that racism is just not an AA issue at all.

CD has data on the demographics of towns if that is what you are looking for.

Good post, it is probably just better to do your own research in cases like this. Though not the gold standard of judging, usually the more educated the populous and the more cosmopolitan the racial/ethnic makeup, the less run ins with racism you should expect, in any region as far as the U.S. is concerned. In other countries which are more homogenized, it can be more difficult.

I'm not sure "ultra christian" towns offer shelter from racism. These places pretty much impress their values on you 24/7...
