Back when this was getting started, it was promised that the Penn figurine would be moved: http://6abc.com/archive/9395811/.

As to the OP, I love the building. It makes a great statement on the skyline. Hope there’s a lot of vibrancy at street level.

It was a very generic parking lot. lol.

I laughed, not happily, about the brown stones because most of those(and small factories) were demolished to create the Pkwy.

There was some rumor that a Will. Penn doll was going to be placed during a topping ceremony. It did happen for Comcast 1.

It should increase the vibrancy at least during the daytime. JFK blvd was very dead before Comcast 1 was built.

That whole section of JFK Blvd has vastly improved and will only continue to do so. Lots of commercial and residential plans are in the works for the area generally; looking forward to those parking lots in the Market/20s to be gone soon.

I appreciate when tall buildings have ornamental lighting at night...to give a skylne some pizzazz....maybe changing colors for different celebrations and holidays.

I wonder if this building will have something distinctive at night.

Call me crazy, but I used to have this vision of Western Market St and JFK becoming the Park Avenue of Philadelphia. Those are some of the few stretches of CC with wide streets that could accommodate large department stores, hotels, outdoor cafes, etc. I would also like to see Market become an East/ West street past City Hall instead of just East. I don't think it will ever be like that, but those stretches are certainly improving. Those vacant lots are certainly the last missing links in CC after the Market East area.

Cira Center, FMC, and One Riverside, and the new CHOP tower on the CC side all look very nice at night. They light up various colors on the façade and roofline.

This is something Philly does not know how to do; creating quality avenues/boulevards. JFK, West Market, South Broad, Ben Franklin Parkway...they could all be amazing. Add a bike lane, calm traffic, upgrade pedestrian crossings, plant more trees, and encourage retail/cafes. One benefit to the new Comcast building that I noted above was the improved pedestrian experience along that block. It makes all the difference.

Isn't there some developer's idea to develop the land that separates JFK from the rr tracks between 22nd and 29th Sts.

Don't forget Evo.

I know about the miniature Billie Penn on Comcast 1. You'd have to think they'd do it for 2.
