What do you guys think of Phillys new building? I work downtown so it gives me the chance to observe more than the average person.
I think it couldve been taller and does not dwarf the original Comcast like they said it would, but it's pretty impressive nontheless in person.

It's not topped off yet, is it? Search "comcast 2" in Google Images for an idea of what'll look like when completed - it will be significantly taller (by about 150'), but won't be out of scale with Comcast 1 or the rest of its surroundings (for an out of scale, "do it just because we want to make a statement and don't care about the urban fabric" search for "burj khalifa tower".)

As an aside ... I went to Penn in the early 70s and spent a significant amount of time at Belmont Plateau. When I moved back to Philly 9+ years ago and went back to Belmont I wondered "How the HELL could I have not noticed back then how beautiful the view of Center City was?" Answer 1: young and clueless. Answer 2: I grew up in New York, so was jaded. Answer 3: there really wasn't that much of skyline to see, given the gentlemens' agreement about height restrictions (see the 1984 view http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j3LYaOxBL5.../s1600/001.jpg).

I honestly have not been following its progress the way I did the first Comcast tower. But it may be behind schedule construction-wise. That is, it's not topped off yet.

It's actually getting more impressive since they're framing the spire portion. And it really looks huge from 76, coming into the city. I like its design, particularly on the ground level. We need more traffic calming crossings like that in our city.

Small potatoes now, especially after all the local angst about building a building way taller than City Hall, but there was eventually a lot of excitement once Liberty Place 1 started to get some height. You could see it from Baltimore Ave at around 48th St! That was pretty thrilling to me. It meant that the city would never be the same again.

Great addition to the skyline, happy we finally got our first supertall (why they didn't add like 25 feet to the Comcast Center is beyond me).

I can't wait to see the Comcast 3 design in a year or two.

I actually drove by it this weekend when I was in town, massive building. Much more attractive then the renderings (usually the opposite is true). It makes the skyline look so much bigger when coming in from 95 South or from a train traveling South. I still cry when I pass 1900 Arch though, one of the worst buildings this city has seen.

I would love for Comcast 3 (or whatever the next huge tower is) to have a sloped roof line, kind of like the Bank of America Tower or 10 Hudson Yards in New York.

According to the guys over at SkyscraperPage (can't link to it here), this building is officially topped out as of today.

^^^Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but no, it is topped out, according to those guys who've been watching and analyzing it every day. My post was in response to posts 2 and 3.
