I did a search for this topic and was unable to find anything relevant to this...so I thought I'd begin a thread dedicated to these sorts of places. Please add your own!
I was also considering beginning another thread for ghost towns, but haven't done a search for that topic and also, wondered if that would fit within this topic....I'll leave that up for your decision.
I stopped at Fort Sisseton in eastern SD on my return trip to home yesterday. I have 32 images, but will attempt to post only a few.
Fort Sisseton was erected in 1864 and was abandoned in 1889.

Awesome photo's HighlandLady. Here are some of the Olustee Battlefield State Historic Site. Here the largest Civil War battle in Florida took place February 20, 1864. It is located in North Florida about 40 miles west of Jacksonville, FL.

Kudos to both of you, Highland Lady and Madcapmagishion on your photos above and esp. to you, Highland Lady for coming up with such a thread. I love the idea, and now I'm going to have to make a trip up to Cowpens, SC and visit the site of an important battle from the Revolutionary War. It might have to wait a few weeks, though, until I finish physical therapy. Maybe by then, there will be some fall color to enhance the pics.

Madcap...those are very good and interesting shots. I can imagine quite a fete it would be to have a gunfight in the thick of that forest (if the forest back then was as it is now).

is this just US soil historical places or European also?? I really should get out in my area as this is where US pilgrims settled...
Definitely worldwide, Bonnie. I wish I had my photos of places in Scotland and Ireland. Anywhere in the world. I thought that perhaps there were many who had shots of places they've been and didn't know where exactly to post them. Could be wishful thinking on my part, though...I am that passionate about anything historical.
I think later, when I've more time to delve into it, I will go through all the other historical shots I have stored on my hard-drive.
