Horrible thought, but a 100% chance that ain't gonna happen.

Zoning laws and all that.

My "little patch of paradise" will remain so for many, many years to come.

If it doesn't, it's only going to fatten my (our my kids) bank account a bunch.

I am very glad you absolutely love living in Portland, but it is not for me anymore.

I can live any way I want to, WITHOUT other Portlanders trying to tell me how I should live my life.

Ironic for someone who seldom misses an opportunity to criticize how those of us who live in Portland live our lives.

Well, I still own two properties in the Woodstock neighborhood, and most of my large family lives in Multnomah County, and I grew up in Sellwood/Westmoreland/Woodstock areas, so I guess I have a little say............

Plus, it's a free country and I have some pretty strong first amendment rights.

Irony ain't got nothing to do with it.

In what sense? Lots of new high-end apartments and condos going up in that area. But that's pretty much the same for all of the near west side. https://www.goosehollowloftspdx.com/

I live in Goose Hollow in the only housing cooperative in Oregon. The building was constructed in 1959 so some units are dated. Because you buy shares and there is no lender to provide a 'mortgage' all sales are cash. As a result the apartments are very reasonably priced.

I know Portland has been a cool place to live, but since Covid it sounds like things have changed there. Is that no longer the case? Are things improving in 2021? Is there a sense things will get back to normal?

I’m not trying to get remotely political, just wondering how much things have changed in the past year or so.

As you acquire assets, there become more ways to generate cash. (Leveraged investments). Many co-op housing people our non-profit aids, need to buy their housing shares without a mortgage. There are also some HUD options for most co-op housing, but the added benefit of a co-op can be specific restrictions on membership. +/-. Which can include not allowed lending on ownership shares. It can be a very good model for affordable housing, more likely at international locations, than USA. Even Canada has far more housing co-ops than USA.

My investments have been my own bank for over 30 years. It gives you much more flexibility.
