I’ve heard the homeless and crime has gone up and made it less desirable.

I’m certainly hoping the reasonable, sane people in Portland can band together and demand better law and order because the city is circling the drain with how things are going. We have been trying to raise money for a massive investment that’ll go unnamed in Portland (and is under construction), but because of the civil unrest, homelessness, and general constant news about the city in the negative it has made fundraising very challenging. Now, I know Portlanders say “it’s just a small area of downtown,” you know that, I know that, but out of state investors don’t know that. They just know what they read online or heard on the news and that scares them. Same with tourists, they don’t want to come to the city, so a hotel I still own part of in downtown is doing miserable because of a mix of Coronavirus issues and general lack of desire from tourists.

I’m pulling for Portland big time, have a lot of money invested in the city, and I want to see it rise up and become the great city it can be. There are just a lot of difficulties and headwinds right now but hopefully stronger leadership can pull things back from the abyss.

Portland residents are getting the city they voted for, and thus deserve. Bed, made, lie.

My wife grew up in the Portland suburbs but we used to love visiting downtown. Incredibly sad to see what's happened there.
