wonder if there is a name for it when too much sun bothers someone?
We've had like 5 days of sunshine now and it's beginning to bug me.

You know theres a desert two hours away or less from portland, around the dalles. You could have easily gone there every weekend for your dose of sun.

Seattle and Portland are closer to deserts than any city away from the Western US that isnt in a desert already.

And there were weeks it was non stop sun there during the winter. I do not believe there is no sun for weeks at a time there.

Too much sun actually depresses me and I see the area of the pcnw west of the cascades as extremely symbolic in terms with humanity and how peoples lives are with light and dark and humanitys history with light and dark.

I feel like Seattle and Portlands biggest difference is that Seattle is where people are more motivated but in a healthy way compared to other us major cities except for portland and portland is just overall less motivated but i still love both places.

.
That's a good thought, but as I mentioned, I don't have a car -- so going somewhere two hours away is not very easy. Especially when I have limited funds for paying for a Greyhound ticket and am too much of a scaredy-pants to hitch-hike.

We currently live in Bellingham, Wa - having lived in Portland/Vancouver for twenty years prior. I have to say that compared to B'ham, Portland is bright and sunny! We're moving back as soon as we can and I can't wait. Portland is the best city ever, in my opinion.

Yeah, if I get too much sun it kind of wears on the nerves...I like watching precipitation.

This is was an extremely well written post by the OP. Excellent job in describing in her opinion the pros, cons, and negative. Even though it was a little bit long for a post, I truly enjoyed reading it.

I too get annoyed with too much sun. I just spent seven months in Mexico and I'm tellin' ya, all that sun drove me crazy. I love the rain and grey skies. Makes me feel cozy.

The OP summed up Portland pretty well. Let's face it- some people can deal with the weather, and some can't. For those that can't, it just isn't the place to be.
